What You Didn't Know About
Colon Cleanse Ingredients

Today, there is a wide variety of colon cleanse ingredients on the market.

Most of them are natural and cause no side-effects if used properly.

However, you can find plenty of bad herbs, and even good herbs that are low-quality and can be a problem.

As the market demand for natural cleansing grows, so do the people that want to jump in and make a quick buck.

That's one of the reasons I started this website; I've done a lot of research about colon cleanse ingredients, and I want to help you avoid the bad stuff.

That said, I'm sure you're eager to get started, right?

You can divide colon cleansing ingredients into three categories: foods, herbs and liquids.

The Herbs

A vast majority of the herbs used in colon cleansing have laxative properties.

One caution, remember to use these ingredients in moderation, it is easy to think that just because they are natural and good for you that you can take them in large quantities.

More is not better in this case.

The herb that you pick for your concoction depends entirely on what you are trying to achieve.

Here is a list of common herbs:

Aloe Leaf
Helps promote bowel movements and soothe the intestines.

Butea Superba
Used for ridding the body of roundworms and tapeworms. Can also be used for certain skin disorders, sore throat and for diabetes, since Butea Superba reduces blood sugar.

Cascara Sagrada
This herb is used in many of todays colon cleansing supplements and can be harmful if used for long periods of time, but it varies greatly from person to person. It is a natural laxative and helps against constipation.

Cayenne Pepper
Also known as Capsium frutescens, often used as an ingredient in body detoxification. It is one of the ingredients in the Master Cleanser (a.k.a the lemonade diet). Cayenne pepper helps with blood flow, cramping, bloating, digestive problems, enhance cardiovascular performance while lowering blood pressure and is also as a natural stimulant.

Fennel
Boosts sexual desire, used to improve the function of kidneys, spleen, liver and lungs. It is an extremely good all-around vegetable (not a herb but worth mentioning!).

Piper Longum
Also known as long pepper and must be used with care since it can be very hot (like chili peppers). A strong stimulant for the digestive system and is beneficial in many other areas such as flatulence, indigestion or abdominal pain just to name a few.

Psyllium Husk
An effective natural fiber supplement and among the most popular colon cleanse ingredients because of its ability to help with bowel movements.

Senna
A strong laxative that can irritate the intestines. This is easily remedied by adding a herb that counteracts it's irritative properties like fennel.

The Foods

The foods consumed during a colon cleanse should be rich in fiber, vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants. Such nutrients can be found in the foods that nature provides, here are a few examples:

  • Fruits
  • Vegetables
  • Nuts
  • Seeds

Pretty simple, right? Eat as much as you want of those (except nuts, too much fat is never good and will make you sluggish) and you will be feeling awesome.

The Liquids

Pure and clean water is one of the most important colon cleanse ingredients, because it helps in providing transportation for all those toxins that are in your system. They need some kind of transit to get out of your body.

Fresh fruit and vegetable juices are also beneficial because of their high vitamin and mineral content.

Probiotics

Don't forget probiotics. A probiotic supplement helps replenish the friendly bacteria in your stomach.

The friendly bacteria can sometimes take a beating when you are cleansing your colon.

As always, consult with a herbalist before making your own brews.
